St. Jacob's Year

THE YEAR 2021 IS SPECIAL FOR OUR PARISH.

This year is the Jubilee Year of James. Therefore, in our Basilica you can get a plenary indulgence throughout the year. See more information about events in the parish related to the Year of James.
On January 1, 2021, the Holy Year of James began in the universal Church. It is celebrated in the Church when the feast of the Apostle, i.e. July 25, falls on a Sunday. It was first announced by Pope Callixtus II in 1122, and in 1179 Pope Alexander III confirmed its validity forever with the bull "Regis aetarni".
Therefore, in December 2020, the Apostolic Penitentiary issued a decree (Prot. No. 910-957 / 20 / I) on the possibility of obtaining a plenary indulgence under ordinary conditions in the Year of James in designated station churches. In the Opole diocese, the station churches are:

  • Minor Basilica of St. James and St. Agnes in Nysa
  • St. James's Church in Skorogoszcz
  • St. James's Church in Racibórz

Conditions for obtaining a plenary indulgence:

  1. A plenary indulgence can be obtained by people who, in spiritual communion with the Jubilee of Compostela, from December 31, 2020 to December 31, 2021, break away in spirit from attachment to any sin.
  2. Those who will visit any of the station churches in the form of a pilgrimage.
  3. Those who will devoutly take part in the jubilee celebrations there or stay there for pious meditation, ending them with the Lord's Prayer, Profession of Faith and invitations to the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. James The Greater Apostle.

Elderly people, the sick, and all those who, for a valid reason, cannot leave the house can equally obtain a plenary indulgence, arousing in themselves aversion to any sin and the intention to fulfill, as soon as possible, the three ordinary conditions, if in front of any Saint's image they will be spiritually connected with the jubilee celebrations, committing to God's mercy their prayers, sufferings or inconveniences of their lives.
