St. John the Baptist Chapel

A cross-ribbed vault with the head of John the Baptist in the keystone covers the chapel. A magnificent, stone, polychromous altar founded by Bishop Gerstmann in 1584. In the predella there is a relief of the Last Supper, in the middle there is a full-blown group of the Crucifixion against the background of a landscape relief. Opposite the entrance there is a Renaissance tombstone of Bishop Marcin Gerstmann (+1585) with a marble relief bust of the deceased. Above it there is a contemporary stained glass window ‘Rosa mistica’. In the entrance arcade there is a Renaissance grate with a painted decorative cartouche of Bishop Gerstmann’s coat of arms.
